I know this sounds unbelievable but its true my boyfriend just called and said my spangled hatch hen killed his frost Grey stag literally she broke his neck ... Because the stag pecked one of her doodles I guess her mother instincts kicked in

How old was the stag?

Looks like wound from fighting through pen. Typically both feet would be affected as well as head. Should not stop walking. It is possible he got hung by foot on something and broke foot?
He has scorpions in his yard, that coupled with the odd location and single hole suggest a sting. Not to mention the lack of mobility and the swelling.

these birds are hard wired to kill what ever threatens them. A good strong very game hen can kill a stag up to about 7mo of age. after that if that were to happen the bird was too weak to have been carrying brood genes so you didn't loose.

2 years old is a cock... he should NOT have died from a hen kick... did anyone see it or just assumed? He may have been sick, the neck goes limp if rigor mortis hasnt set in.

If he did die from a hen kick, then she did you a favor.

I missed typed cause my phone is acting up his was little over a year old and no my boyfriend was feeding than heard a doodle make a sound when he turned a round he seen the hen run up a hit him on the back of the neck than the stag just flopped over and didn't move so he ran over there to check out the stag and he wasnt moving or breathing and no he wasnt sick he was a very healthy chicken unless it was internal problems but he acted just fine

I guess it was a lucky shot, sounds like he wasnt expecting it. Too bad for the rooster.

I had a brooding hen attack and break a chicks leg this morning.. I caught her before she killed it. I bandaged the chicks leg with some medical tape and a simple splint.

dead stags, broke toes and legs, man I've never had any problems like y'all having although I also have full control
