I guess it was a lucky shot, sounds like he wasnt expecting it. Too bad for the rooster.

I had a brooding hen attack and break a chicks leg this morning.. I caught her before she killed it. I bandaged the chicks leg with some medical tape and a simple splint.

It must have been a lucky shot cause he was healthy as could be idk how to put this but I guess you could say shes the gamest hen we have .. Our others ones just puff up at a rooster but my spangled hatch is the only that will fight a rooster over her doodles

don't stress the loss, you have a good hen to give you more it seems.

With games u need to run it like a prison. Being all nice is gonna get your stuff killed
Definitely a trade off. I can breed more chicks if I let them free range, but I will definitely lose more.

Having full control is good practice. But I dont think that is my style. I tend to let things run their course. My only control involves penning up stags/cocks that I definitely want to keep, and leave the rest to natural selection.

I'm like @JShubin I let my hens free range seemed like they done better than being cooped up

on the flip side natural selection could be the cowards running and hiding while the ones with courage stay and get picked off

had some ridiculous storms come through today. Fun stuff. That was my low budget cigar lounges
Straight line winds are no joke! Honda Civic flipped over at a nearby mall parking lot. Should have seen me jumping curbs trying to get home. All I could picture were 40 dumped over pens.
