i think your right Central i think the problem is higher up but the foot is a problem to he can walk when he needs to i think what might of happened was when i got him he was thin from the pr eves owner so i put him on a tie cord and i remeber one of my stags going over and fighting with him so that could of coursed some damage this bird has just come under my control 2 days ago and seems to be getting better with the antibiotics his face turnes bright red at times and he can walk when he wants to but looks like an old man walking so if its an injury i guess i can deal with that if its say mareks ill have to cull him i hope its not mareks what do you think if your on face book p.m me i have videos on there of him walking....
He looks thin in the leg that bears the weight. Previous owner must have done something or allowed somethng to happen to right leg. I am betting stag got his leg twisted by being hung or he got handled rough when being captured. If so then damage to joint in hip, knee or heel area likely. Damage in those areas could impact circulation to lower foot where swelling is visible. Overall he looks very underweight with too much skin showing. Does he show worm sign? I would also be concerned about possible past bout with cocci that could keep looked pale like he looks now. Putting him on grass and getting good greens plus quality protein may help get him back into condition. If joint problem hypothesis correct, then he will be frail likely for life in that respect. I could recommend a diet (far from practical) that may speed convalescing. Keep him from jumping or any frightened movements until normal gate restored.

I think you are on point with your observations he is very under weight but was when I got him he seems to be doing much better I have been giviging him antibiotics orally and I put small pieces of bread in there to make him take in more he was wormed 3 weeks ago that I no I would like to no about the diet you are talking about I have noticed his face has been much red'er today....

I don't think chivalry has died yet. I have a yard full of stags and have experienced nothing but respect from every buyer. I've even had a couple gangster types come to buy and they were some of the most honest and appreciative. But then again I am young and optimistic. The only disrespect I see is from the older guys who bash each other on this thread, even though they are all basically trying to say the same thing.
who u talking about shubin? Hope it ain't me I'm just a young pup. Lol

I assume you have access to a starter feed that high in protein and nutrients in general. Wet it to make it more tasty. Then mix in some fresh dark vegetable greens or a deep red spice (paprika, cayenne or chili) to point mix looks orange. You would not be able to consume because of the hot but bird will have little trouble. The mix should stimulate more appetite than your standard fare and put color back into skin and legs. Make this fresh daily.

With birds needing more easy to digest eats, I also pop them with live mealworms and boiled eggs. Keep the water good and fresh. Look closely at new feathers coming in as you are likely to see a narrow zone where they were grown when bird particularly weak, Same areas will be prone to break or show stripes when feathers fully in.

yes centra i have the starter feed this is what i will do with him boiled eggs wet starter with paprika i think you where spot on with your observation i remember when i got the bird he was a little weak and i put him on a tie cord and one of my stags attacked him for about 1 min so he could of pulled something with the tie out of the stag could of damaged him in some way well thanks for the tips he is doing much better today his face is red again i think the diet i have him on and the antibiotics helped him alot....

hay narr, you have a lot of helpful info coming your way , if it were me and he is eating good i would not put all he can eat in front of him i would feed out of a v shaped cup and start him with a ounce a day and grit and if he does good increase feed up to 3 oz a day . never no more than 3 oz a day if you have a way to grind the feed fresh . seems to me if you got him that way that would be a problem , i would had to cull him before i let him off my yard that reflects bad on who let him off there yard in that shape . if you are new game fowl find someone to show you the ropes a little hands on i am new here and still learning . i have had people on here tell me to let them eat all the want to eat when after the fowl have been pinned that`s bull .wish you the best with him ............- p.s. keep him away from your other fowl till you know it can`t be spread ...................mike fis.
