You are right.. loss of habitat is a driver of wild animal demise... but so is the guy who goes out and kills everything within a mile radius of his newly acquired habitat.

save your hypocritical nonsense for the Trump rally.
Haha. No thanks. Although you may think whatever you want. I am not as far right as you may think my friend.
I counted 14 raccoons walked in front of my car last fall on my way to work right out front of my house. I've killed 2 since then. That's 12 left pulse many more that I didn't see. + breeding, not going extinct anytime soon at least around here. You need to understand the carrying capacity of the land. There are fur bearer biologists and surveys and sample testing and all kinds of other things that go into setting seasons, limits etc.. While it may make you feel good to shed a tear for the helpless animals. Your time would be better spent cleaning up a stream, adding a wood duck nest box, volunteer to do animal counts in your area etc..That way you can actually make a difference.
You would be better prepared if you understood the home range size of certain animals like fox and raccoons. Foxes are much larger, take the male and if the habitat is there another will move in within a year. Every fall the young foxes are on their own. Raccoons will usually stay with the mother until the second year. This all makes a difference. Since the adoption of regulated hunting and season limits not one animal has become extinct. Most populations have rebounded to much higher levels in recent history. I killed a raccoon a few years ago that came charging toward me at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. He had distemper. Is an animals brain cooking inside its head a more ethical way to die? Populations get too big for a certain area and disease can and will kill them anyway. Being pushed outside of its home range by people that wanna build big houses in the woods to impress their friends because of the awesome view? Then slap a bumper sticker on their car that says they're animal friendly. That's hypocritical.
Nonetheless you can sleep soundly knowing my traps will be working hard the next few days. I will keep you updated on the progress. Lol

Understand with the metal and heat. How about shade cloth material? I am not sure of the price, but you can get different densities and it is impressive stuff. We used it in Arizona for a couple of projects and it was amazing how much cooler it was under the material than out of. We covered basically "hoop houses" for flight enclosures.

Shade material rains through. I feel so disagreeable lol.

Animal management:

Perfect example here is the American alligator it was on the endangered list and through management has now rebounded greatly and off the list and now as prolly everyone in American knows has a hunting season.

As far as farmers they are to gather wild eggs and are required to release something like 17% of whatever they hatch cause ldwf says that's the average of wild hatchlings survival.

On the other hand the hog and nutria population is destroying the land and no amount of hunting seems to be putting a dent in their population

As my late friend used to say... Maybe someone needs a Happy Meal!

Another possibility... A friend of mine used to work for a tent/awning shop. They had this material that is like a heavy rubberized/plasticized canvas. She would get me "scraps" that were pretty good sized for free. It held up well in the weather and the price was right. I am sure it would be too expensive to buy, but if you have anything like that in town it may be worth asking...

That is a good idea. All the heavy duty canvas tarps are way up there price wise. I'll have to look around.
