Getting our first real cold snap of season. Negative 3 F expected tomorrow with considerable windchill overnight. In addition to typical ration I am popping them with about a 1/3 again additional whole corn to promote good crop fill at night. Soaked oats in fermenting now to keep birds in better hydration as waters freeze up in less than an hour.

Getting down to 7 tomorrow. I feed twice a day, pellets, whole corn and boss. For a few days leading up to real cold weather.
They may even get some hot oatmeal.

10 here now water frozen solid. Never thought about wetting the oats.

I feed cabbage leaves in the winter when no grass. I get boxes of them free from grocery store. They can freeze and are still fine. Its so cold today they crunch like potato chips. Chickens love them
