I do let my birds run the yard on occasion. While probably not enough to make a big difference, I still do it. I only have 2.5 acres so I'm limited with what I could get away with.

Yeah rain helps germinate weeds... lol Years prior we had winter rye grass, but the drought ruined the cycle and now we are covered in wild mustard and cheeseweed. The young wild mustard greens are good eating (for me and fowl) but the cheeseweed is not edible.

These guys are not all showing type well which is important. These guys are fair representatives of what Mug looked like at the time it was infused way back when they Mugs to my understanding where rounder and low to ground. All current Mugs I have seen in Missouri are much heavier, higher stationed, longer legged and some having peacombs from influence of Oriental blood. My birds would not pass for Mugs now.

Hen - dam to last cock that has dark brown base color typical of what I call Mug's.

If dark coloration of hen where in the cocks above, then they would be hard to distinguish from redquill.

I am focusing on two lines...

Blue Leg hatchs. Since the loss of my main cock Fabio I am worried about keeping the line strong. I want to breed this line bigger in size and weight like I had them a few years ago. I bred in some spanish game to normalize the size... but now I want to go back to the big ones for future broods.

White fowl. Now that I have the Half breed Modern x American game.. I want to breed him back to his mother (modern) and also to his pure white aunt. I want extra tall pure white American games with dark legs (blue, slate or green), mostly for show purposes.

Plus I got a a variety of other colors I will experiment with.. Greys, Blacks, etc...

I want to get some layers as well... My wife says the same thing when she goes to the store... "Why do we have all these chickens but have no EGGS!?" I was thinking Russian Orloffs...

I like these colors... especially this hen. Some of the wild red jungle fowl hens I have seen pictures of, have similar dark colored faces and feathering.
Google Image I found....

Side by side the hens will look different. Hen I pictured lacks the salmon breast of the wild-type. Additionally, the wild-type birds have the typical chipmunk down while birds I have pictured start as a deep chocolaty brown with creamy white belly and sometimes on face and wing tips. Others look like classic redquill or "buttercups" if you will.

Modern games? As in oeg?
I also got some layers for the first time last year after owning games for 3 years and I'm glad I did. I get about a dozen every 2-3 days from 5 hens.

Blue Andulusian or Anconas. Best I've had out of a lot of different breeds for white eggs.
