Wing bands used to mark chicks prior to weaning and leg bands applied by the time birds penned. If band lost before penning the bird may as well have been eaten by a fox. Positive ID required.
I can mentally identify all my chicks/chickens, but I only keep a small flock compared to some of you guys. If leg band is lost, you are not able replace based on your memory?

Your color codes are confusing to me but I am guessing you know exactly whats going on. So the wing/leg bands have color codes on them or are they the actual colors? For example do you keep a yellow band on left leg and red band on right leg to indentify the parentage?

Founders of the three lines can be ID by sight as older even though some of their offspring are difficult to tell from what the founders looked like when latter were young. Once penned it is permanent, then leg band loss not problem nor is wing band so long as bird stays in cage until new band applied.

Colors simply make easier to ID line from distance. Bands also have unique numbers to ID individuals within a line. Parentage on the non-founder side indicated by number on the wing band so if I let cage number slip my mind then I have to check the wing band.

Hey shubin keep your flock small. Unless you want to lose your mind. Besides you'll have more money for lattes instead of spending it all on feed. Haha
I have 85 birds counting 3 guineas and a peacock. I'm amazed at how much feed I go through.

Id kill someone over that.
When I get off rig in a few days going to look at some pullets. Parents on sight.

I was noting his comb and wattles coloration which seemed a bit pale but camera lighting can make color interpretation tough. Has be been dubbed? Comb looks pea if not.
