A couple inches of icy sleet with 3 inches of snow crushed one of my pens, luckily it didn't kill my splash wheaten Sulmtaler stag. I now have 2 splash wheatens and they are the only 2 in the US right now.

I am wanting chickens for the farm an need something that will be able to escape predators and will go broody. I will be keeping some pure games but want to see if this cross will be what I'm looking for. Iv had just about every breed with exception of the fancy types an none of them have been exactly what I'm looking for. I'm hoping this cross will be slightly larger than the games an lay better an brown eggs. I totally agree with preserving breeds but with welsummers just being hatchery birds and the games are yard hatches from a game breeder. They are mostly kelso hatch but have some great mixed in.
have you tried Anconas, lakenvelders, or blue andulusuians. White eggs but the three of them are real good at staying alive. Also hamburgs. Im not sure Ive had a brown egg layer that was real good at keeping themselves in one piece.

I know all the guys on here will be mad at me.. but I think its a good idea. If you want something specific than go ahead and breed it. If it works then more power to you.

I cross breed different strains of games all the time and I have good results despite discouragment from "pure' bred enthusiasts.

Asil.[/quote

What can u tell me about asil? As for my american games I don't feel bad about crossing them because the breeder said he had to many hens and was going to kill them so he saved me the best 4 he was going to get rid of.

sumtaler? Lol the other day I had to clean of all 30 pens and my three coops to keep them from collapsing. Although they were holding just fine, but I was worried about all the weight. That's a job and half. Fun times

Which reminds me flypen u should come down for the first louisiana Grand Prix Indy car races April 12th or 13th. We getting tickets

That sounds like a trip! I will be working off and on in New Orleans for the next few months, maybe a year or so. I have a federal courthouse job starting next week.
