I hear ya.  There is still a little time...  It is just unusual to see that bright coloring coming through.

Yeah! your right, I'm hoping for a stag, some longer tail feathers should be showing too.

since I have a fairly decent understanding of feathers, with the saddles and capes I use for tying flies. I almost always go by the saddle. Obviously hens ain't got one like a stag if youlook real close at those feathers coming in grab them in your hand near the tips. I can't tell for sure, but they look real stiff and glossy, bend them away from the stem if they are real stiff and splay out individually its a stag. If you can take another pic of that bird with a closer pic of those feathers I'll make a prediction. I'm saying stag though anyway. Pullets always have rounded feathers on the saddle too. Sometimes it can be tough to tell though.

A lot of times you can dig down beneath the back feathers and look at the new ones coming in. As soon as they start growing it's easier to tell cause once they splay out of the tube it's usually plain as day. After a few days or so it gets harder cause you lose some of the feather shape, until it gets much longer.

I'll catch it tonight and post a couple pictures, it's free ranging so i'm not able to catch it during the day.

Some of these birds are hard to tell. Those redquills had nothing for comb and wattles. Couldn't tell for sure until I saw those saddle feathers. He crowed 4 days later. Crazy!

from the looks of the pics although I like the polka dot hens the solid blue looks to have better form, so for that reason I'm out. I mean I choose the solid blue

Yep, it is between the gray and the splash.

SDM, I like the splash one a little better, but agree with you, the blue one has better form. The splash one handles really nice and is calmer, but she usually has a droopy look to her. Maybe too relaxed. Her wings will even hang down a little, until she is startled, then she perks up...
