Is there a certain age to pen up stags.  Does keeping them in a group affect there confidence/personality later on?  Just thinking out loud.  I have three late hatch stags running together.  They have their little battles, but it it clear what the pecking order is, but they still challenge each other.
if they games the issue u will prolly have is when the right now underdogs become an adult and sexually mature they gonna challenge the top cock and prolly won't back down till one is done that's my opinion

I keep stags together all the time, but IMO its best in a free range setting with plenty of other chickens around. An adult cock around should help keep them all in check and prevent battles from getting too crazy. He should also stop them from chasing hens/pullets around too much.

Mine get into little battles as well. I think its a good way to determine who is the dominant rooster and the lessers.

I'd say 7-8 months old is the oldest, otherwise you're taking risks.

What SDM said is very true and will happen eventually.

i don't know about whether it affects the confidence or not but keeping them together depends on the individual birds imo. I was able to keep miners together til about 6 months. Rubles a little less. Leipers about 5 months, then one of them wouldn't let the other stags eat and was whooping them when they got close. Penny's and whitehackles 9 weeks, 1 dead 3 beat to h*ll and back. One stood out easily to me. I think it may affect their confidence more if one gets beat up young. Like shubin said it would obviously work better if they are free ranging though. Id rather not, I have pullets that I take to the other side of the yard and witching minutes she is back in between pens trying to fight through the wire. Depends on the birds, not created equal and some mature faster than others and some probably aint worth feeding.
