To h*ll with the rain! It's literally storming here now. Been raining for 4-5 days straight with 3 more to go. I'm gonna need 4 more bales of straw in the morning. It's a pain in the *ss big time.

I am sure you have plenty of history and experience in those years.

I'm still learning new things all the time, I would never say I knew all there is to know about gamefowl because each family is a little different. Some cross very good and some don't, but my Hatch and my Butchers, I can say I've probably seen everything they will ever do.

Usually get a bag of pine shavings at TSC for $5 something.

I can fill about 15 or so 4x5 dome pens deep with a bale

I don't use shavings for anything due mainly to the dust it makes

I use shavings inside my 3 coops and straw for all my pens. Straw inside a closed up coop is not a good idea. Run the risk of getting bugs, since the straw is hollow. Plus shavings are simple to sweep out often.

Isn't straw bad for their respiratory system when wet?

I think it's the shavings that are bad when wet but not sure. Can't imagine anything wet is all that great for their breathing though.

Wheat straw is better than anything I've used, when I can find it.
