If that was the first time your dog ever got out. That guy is a jack*ss, and deserves a beating. If it's not the first time since you said he knew it was your dog then maybe it's been a problem before with your dog running at large.
Gut shooting and poisoning are fairly barbaric even by my standards.
If I caught a dog killing my birds I would attempt to catch it by reasonable means and put the owner on notice. Happens again and I would shoot him on the spot.

I am an advocate of breeding crosses. All my fowl are weed crosses, lol except a few pure Spanish/Cubans breeds I was gifted.

I agree that its hard to tell from looks alone. you'd have to ask the breeder. And that isnt the best picture of the rooster either haha. @TimCline
Get down low and get a shot at his level, showing his profile.

Thanks. I'll get a better picture in the morning

The guy knew he was our dog just because we have had several since we have lived here and they know where we live. This is the first time any of them has killed anything. Every one of our neighbors that heard about it were shocked because they know our dogs are good and dont bother anything. Every one of our neighbors have livestock. But Bear stayed on a chain unless we were home to watch him with Rowdy. He never ran at large. Rowdy stays home unless he follows us up to the neighbor's. Id bet the farm he wouldnt touch a goat. Our friends have goats that live on down the road and Rowdy follows us up there so he is very good with goats. The guy is just a mean old SOB. Bear was just very hyper and overly playful.. it was one of his only faults. Im betting he got too rough playing with the goat and wallered it to death. Yes Im country, well educated, and still use words like holler and wallered. Lmao :)

I have seen my dogs play with my goats... and I can see how it can get out of hand if I wasnt there.

The one time they attacked my goats I found the goats exhausted to the point they couldnt walk for a day or two... but they left them alone after they wore them down.... When I came home the dogs were sleeping and the goats were hiding in opposite corners of the yard. Probably just herding them.

I am guessing Bear just "wallered" them to death, because he wasnt tired yet. lol

I let my dogs loose every morning to run the hills. I let them run up and I'll call them down after about 5 minutes. They can hear my whistle from hundreds of yards away and will find they're way back. I "trained" my male to do it and now the female pup follows him...

I'd hate for a neighbor to complain or worse shoot my dog for harassing anything (which they dont luckily).

Generally most places have leash laws, excluding hunting dogs in season (training). Any other times is at your own risk.
Heat about it all the time somebody goes out and let's their dog run loose and then it gets caught in a trap and the owner wants to b*tch and moan when it's their own fault. Usually trespassing in the process.

yeah I can see that as an issue. No traps going on around here.. but I know there are leash laws, because of the numerous horse riders, but they dont ride the hills behind my house often, and I would be able to see them if they were.

I feel that dogs should be able to roam free.. I hate people.

You do realize you are a person correct? I am no fan of being around many people.
I bet a pack of wild dogs would go great with your wild gamegowl population lol
