I think your last 2 lines sums it up

This weekend I'm getting a pair of Sylvesters I'll just throw him in every now and then with 2 blue splash hens. Bring up a couple batches of pures and crosses and send the pair back home

I assume it's not the pretties flypen

Sylvester's pretties are definitely his best, not to say the one you have is not. A few hatched eggs will tell the tell.

I never really paid attention to eggs volume with or without a Male with them havoc but usually all the hens are paired up unless setting. I'll have single males but rarely single hens even the Grey's are paired with something while they are layed off just out of convenience on my part

Hoping I'll get a couple of pullets this color from my Bennetts

I HATE snakes!!! So some of my hens are free range and lately 2 of my bravest hens were acting like they got in corn mash (aka snot faced drunk) this happened overnight they would flop flip jump twirl, and failed the whole field sobriety test miserably.I was going to ring some necks, sigh. All of a sudden 2 other hens nesting under a shed raised wholly hell, my trusty mutt dog scooted under, and then it turned real ugly, dog came out with the a** end of a 7ft rat snake shaking like mad. The front half of the snake was wrapped around the neck of hen #3!! Had my son hold jenny and I cut the snake off,fed it to the dog. Hope I got to her in time, she is wobbly but can function, she returned to her nest.I guess since I'm in fl swampland its no surprise, been here my whole life, and I HATE snakes. The dog will be on permanent yard duty, no more sleeping on the couch!!Unfortunately the first two are too far gone brain was simply cut off from oxygen too long.Bummer.Good Roundheads. Just wanted to share this if somebody else has a drunk, check for snakes,Thank god they were not sick, but gone is gone.At least I was able to salvage 15eggs from them in the incubator now.

I have had good luck in the past placing double cone minnow traps near the chickens for catching the snakes but then you have a live snake in a basket to deal with.
