Haha.  The coffee sounds good, but I am not one for cigars.  What are you watching for Havoc?  I do the same thing and I know there are little things that help sort them out, but it can be tough for me when they are pigeon sized.  

To be honest. I don't really have much to add from what sdm111 said as others have more experience than me. I do like calm yet aggressive pullets. I cannot stand high strung nervous pullets. I have kept the pullets that will throw down with a stag and won't easily back down. For males strictly gameness, the best I can select anyway. Kinda hard to tell much though at only pigeon size well for me anyway. Overall I really don't care too much about station (within reason) or color. I kept a fairly low station ruble stag from last year. He has everything else I prefer.

Imo other than a gut feeling u won't really know how stags are gonna be till about a yr yr1/2 old. It can be narrowed down but to say THAT one out the bunch beforehand is premature.

Tried to get some pics of the pullets I kept but the camera didn't want to cooperate going from 70 to a humid 90°

No. I do know where they come.from and I feel confident in their care but I wouldn't advise to bring in birds without quarantine cause u never know

Thanks Havoc! I like the calm yet aggressive birds too. Something easy to handle but not timid.

I have about 12-14 open right now and they will prolly all be filled then by next Jan or so I'll prolly only have 4 or 5 occupied I'll thin out through the summer and fall

Any breeding you got to try your best to better their gameness and vigor. There's no point in lateral moves but sometimes good to good don't make great lol

I had to chuckle when I read this. My son just asked me last night while we were out watching the birds why some have pea combs and some have single combs.

Single Comb = rrpp
Pea Comb = rrPP or rrPp

In this case "r" represents rose comb but is "silenced in the recessive state. "P" represents pea comb and is expressed in the heterzygous or homozygous dominant state.

A quick cross with a single comb bird will reveal if your pea comb bird is rrPP or rrPp.

Thanks for the cross info to determine Comb genetics, so you are seeing a more of the statistically expected results not the "mostly" point of view comment that made not a whole lot of since to me.

I do appreciate your guys sharing your experiences as there is a lot of BS on the net... so I am trying to sort through it all. Not only is there massively conflicting info but terms get tossed around that have left me scratching my head.

On Station do you guys mean leg length or vertical angle of the bird? I have seen it used for both and now I am confused.

Be patient with me please, I am trying to sort out conflicting lingo and how it is used by various folks.

I might try the "bucket test" for giggles on my hens just to see if they are smart enough to know where the food is and how to get to it... the hens are not game birds, but will jump, in fact saw my light patterned/Bl gene girl do a vertical 4 foot flight today. It was an escape move, she was startled.

Part of the reason I am here is to learn what I need to know to keep games intelligently and responsibly. I like pretty much all game breeds and also long-tails pretty opposite ends of the personality spectrums based on my trying to read up on both groups and special considerations for keeping.
