i keep feed with chicks at all times. The hen eats a lot of it too. Usually that little bowl will need filled in 2 days or so.

above ground I'm ok but if they don't eat all their starter and it hits the ground when they on the ground within a day it's all fuzzy with the humidity. In plastic its fine. Can't have any waste on the ground

That hen will have it al scratched around and eaten up quick. I wouldn't use that little bowl if it was raining. She lost some weight sitting on eggs so I don't care if she eats the baby feed. In a week I'll put feed in for her in a cage cup up higher, and a chick feeder for the little ones, but I do always leave them with feed at all times. I use de pretty regularly in the pens and If it all gets wet I change it out and clean it up.
