Also months ago we had a bad storm come through and blow over a sweaters pen where he come from and he got in a pen fight and broke off every toe nail and both spurs. Seems like his spurs are trying to grow back not so much his toe nails

You just wait, I got uglier. This is the year for ugly molts here.

Sold some stags today. Moved the older stags into the empty pens. Now if I can just sell these pullets! I'm going to end up advertising chicken mole plates next week.....lol

Tail Feathers? Some time ago I read a snippet on Sabong about how many main tail feathers gamefowl should have. I didn't give it much thought at the time, but last night, I was handling birds and counting tail feathers... I came up with birds that had 6, 7 and 8. Does it matter?

How are you defining tail feathers? I distinguish between retrices and sicles.
I was counting on females so counting all of main tail. I suppose the top feather is technically a sickle...

I have not personally handled Sweaters, but some them appear to have huge tails. Do some intentionally select for tail size simply for show?

couple hens in the community pen
Is she blue? The is an interesting pattern with the patches. This spring I had a little blue pullet hatch out with a brown spot on her one wing, she kept it until her final molt. Maybe 12 feathers or so were brown with the rest of her body blue.

He doesn't look so bad. Hard to hang on with no toenail? Is it my perspective, is the hen big or is he smaller?
