My hat is off to a man who has such birds and I say more power to him. I don't think that I will ever get that far.
those people in the magazines and such are generations deep in raising chickens they're the real deal and can command those prices for chickens that have been refined through very selective breeding and culling all but the very best and keeping game chickens game.

I hear you. I think there are game chickens by type, etc. Then, there are game chickens bred for what's in their attitude or head.

exactly they're world's apart, I know a family right around the corner from me that is 3 generations working chickens. The old man taught his son now his son is teaching his son all three together pretty much everyday I think that's awesome

That is awesome. Around my area, there are types of cliques. There are certain people that will help certain people. In this part of the country, we are all members of one clique or another. but all in all, it's like a brotherhood or fraternity.

With my luck, I would have to keep that type bird close to the house. A bobcat would get it before the first chick was sired.

If I were to purchase such birds, they would be placed in hardened pens with more than one layer of protection. Biggest concern for me would be the exposure to disease coming from my yard. The hardened area would serve as a quarantine both to protect my flock and the new comers from each others "bugs". Outside bird bird would also be more likely to stir any free-ranging stags into fighting. Keep them away.
