That's a good idea. We have winter rye grass galore. Each time I walk pass the pens, I grab a handful for each pen. I also supplement with kale and/or Romaine lettuce. I have also thrown them a chip of alfalfa hay from time to time and let them pick through it for the small leaves.

haha same exact thing here...

Its been almost 3-4 years since Winter rye has grown naturally on the hills... I think we will get some this year... if it doesnt get too hot before next rain.

It's fun to watch them scratch through the alfalfa. I see that you are in Southern California. I have a son living in San Deigo. We've never been there when the weather wasn't super. It's a beautiful area. I don't know if it's still there, but we use to enjoy the horse races there.

We got some horse racing going on still... I've been to a few. Got friends with thoroughbreds.

San Diego is a bit south of me but it is really nice... and considered one of the nicest weather spots in California. but if you're too close to the ocean, you'll get a lot of fog throughout the day.

We started getting some grass due to last rain.. but if it get too hot or windy it will die/dry up before winter comes... This causes real problems when rain hits hills and produces mudslides because no grass to hold it together.
