I've done a few crosses this past year. Some good some won't do again and am culling the brood stock. Funny how some the pures are good yet cross the two and no good. Some just don't mix well. For example I am not happy with the penny/wh crosses. Leiper/penny are good but too mean. Wh/kelso so far so good. Ruble/mug so far so good. Ruble/black not happy. Miner/leiper seems good so far. Miner/mug seem good so far but still young, penned one of em today.
Blacks are all looking pretty good, one I don't like the station. Just gotta watch cause some of them are pretty aggressive toward just about anything moving.

Speaking of aggression I have a question for you breeders;

On keeping the gaminess, how far would you go? I know of course man eaters are a no no, but other then that is it a free for all in a sense?

Took a lot of bites and kicks to the hands today. Felt great in the cold. Had gloves on most of the time.

Everybody is different. As far as aggression toward me I don't really care about a peck here and there. I spent the entire day checking birds. The main thing for me and most would be that they calm down rather quickly once in your hands. Usually the ones that will kick you will also keep biting and trying to shuffle in your hands too. They gotta go. One thing though I'd say 25% of my birds will act somewhat aggressive toward me while penned when feeding and watering them. What matters is when you go to get them out, how do they act then.
I do have a penny that does not like me getting in his pen and he hurts. Totally fine in hand and on a cord. All birds are different. Some don't handle confinement as well as others. Bigger pens may help if doable.

Cold here too.  The wind is the worst part.  Went from the mid 70's to snow.  Hard to adjust.

Deer hunting SDM?  Lots of deer moving farther north right now.

Prolly not just visiting a sister. Will be shooting a lot though. Just target may be some skeet

It's nice to be able to pick one up and he doesn't bite or attempt to stick a spur in you. I still have 3 that'll either bite or kick you when you pick them up. Their temperament is a lot more aggressive, shorter fuse. One was made mean by showing him 3 times while he was molting. One don't like me but he likes my wife. If you have one that would rather hit you that another rooster then you have a problem. I do my best not to handle any of them while they're molting.

I sent him a message will let u know when he responds. He had to many for me to remember. But he's 4. When selecting for trios or pairs to purchase what are your guys thoughts on how to pick them like say age wise. Older male to younger females, vise versa. Or same age group. Is four years old to old for females and there egg laying.
