At least Havoc you can depend on her ,,I think all my chickens could get loose and fly away and none of the occupants of this homestead would know but me .
Haha. Buddy she had to go into the woods after some paired up birds that ended up in the thorns. All this before work. We're even since she left the lid off the blue kote the other day. Yesterday I grabbed it and got it all over me. That's like the 9th time I've got that stuff all over me

Same here. I could have dead roosters all over the yard and nobody would know.

Been doing some reading over the holiday. Does anyone give their birds oil in their feed to help feathering? Also, does anyone use compost in their pens or horse manure?
I soak the regular chicken feed (cracked corn, milo, wheat) in water to create a semi fermented grains.

I have compost bins in my yard and the free range chickens go nuts in them when I take the lids off. I posted 3 photos yesterday of a stag digging through it.

I usually rake the pens once a week (or two weeks) and sprinkle DE in them. Or straw. or both.

Does the fermented grain help with their finish?

Yes, I saw the pics. They were having a good time. Mine do the same, but I am not able to let them all out each day, so I was trying to think of something for in their pens.

Just let em all out to free range they'll be fine.

Are you sure? Maybe if I open the pen doors before sun up they won't see each other until they are actually out of their pens and it will all be okay. lol

I think it helps with digestion and overall health.

I dont know much about feather health, although good diet is big part of it.. I would think calcium and protein for feathers health. Although oil might give it a nice shine
