Update on the not games or long-tails but hey they are the chickens I can have so... Well this molt has been different from past ones... fist Princess Leia here has been molting hard and then for three days because of work I think Queen Amidala also in molt (but the slower longer type) just has gone down cabin fever road and has been over pecking, picking at Leia's new feathers and actively preventing her from feeding or drinking. So intervention time. Saturday I slathered Leia up with turmeric powder (for it's healing and blood clotting ability also it dyes the skin a different color) and petroleum jelly to make Leia unpleasant to poke at. I also released them from confinement yesterday, and I see no new pecking on Leia... so that is good. Plus I spread food in different areas making it harder on the dominate hen to prevent Leia eating. I am going to make a cloth cover too... Leia's pooh is pretty dry.. so rehydration is a concern. Anyway she is inside with me getting head scratches and TLC. Not sure other than them not getting their regular free roam time why this year the molt has gone this way and Amidala is being more aggressive than usual. Regular Turmeric Powder makes a yellow-orange stain and turns the scabby areas brown almost black. Anyway I need to expand their coop area especially since hubby wants to add pullets this spring... he wants another EE for sure, he likes blue eggs... I plan two new chicks this spring but they got to be girls because of the no rooster rules... so they will no doubt be both layer breeds/strains but we will see what I find as I am open as I am just happy to be able to keep any kind of chicken after all those years of it being not allowed in this area... I need to make a better brooder set up for my shower area in the master bath (that is where I raise the chicks every time). Happy Chicken Time To All.

Yeah very rough even before Amidala took to being surprisingly aggressive this year's molt... but she is perking up (eating and drinking next to me on the couch just fine) and healthy other wise (figured good time to do inspection). I tried giving them cat food but they would not touch it so I am thinking I should pick up some sunflower seeds to up their protein intake. So here she is in my wash cloth rag cover (it is just an old wash cloth with a hole cut for the head and elastic sewed on the tips) not fancy but it should work.

When I need to get stuff in mine from time to time I make a slurry with 24% protein starter and water with vitamins and electrolytes. They love it. Could even put a bit of honey, syrup to make it more appetizing and a kickstart up her energy. Some say boiled egg but mine never really liked egg. Or mealworms for that matter I tried live ones and they didn't react to them like I anticipated from what I read on the net like they go crazy for them. Friend of mine says pepper stimulates appetite

Okay thanks for the advice... I am assuming red pepper which I have so I can easily mix some in to their feed.
