I gave my badly molting hen a gentle warm water bath and hair dried her on low... she is now hanging with me on the sofa eating her high protein crumbles.

So here are some pictures of her progress...

The before picture I previously posted last week:

As you can see below she is on the heal, new feathers coming in, some of the scab area is peeling off (I clipped that carefully so hopefully the other hen will not be tempted to pick at it and remove scab that is still covering not fully healed areas).

Her comb is now a nice bright red versus the washed out color it was before.

And a nice current side shot:

What she should look like when all healed (old photo of her).

So your guys advice is helping... I have never had a hen molt this bad or another go stir crazy... the other seems to be mellowing out too. So thanks guys.

When I go to get feed next time I am going to the store further away so I can hopefully get Game Starter in the amount I want and for a good price... suburbia creep has really effected the feed stores and not in a good way. The best store I have been to is in another county and a serious drive which is where I eventually got these birds from. I actually before getting these birds went to feed stores all over... some are next to useless for poultry, focussing just on horses and clothing wear or dog and cat supplies with very little for anyone with livestock of any kind others seemed to be okay for getting certain things at but not knowledgable at all... it has been several years now I guess since I did the field trips and the store I went to Saturday has definitely downsized their poultry options since then. I may take a field trip to "The Bird Store"... it is a huge pet bird store for more exotic birds but they may end up being more useful for avian needs than the feed stores closest to me that appear to be shifting to dogs, cats and horses mostly. I am spoiled I used to be able to go to a feed store that specialized in poultry the owner retired and sold his property which is now a used car place.

I'd imagine it's gonna take a while for her to recover but looks to be on her way.
There's 2 what I would call real feed stores I go to. One is about 10min away but has our local high taxes and higher price per bag but I prefer their feed. Or I go to Mississippi for half the taxes and cheaper per bag price but less quality feed.
What kind of chicken is she?

I just went out to verify my games are not suffering a verdant green environment like shubin's birds are. As I thought temperature never exceeded 10 F today and ground is snow covered. Almost none of the birds came off the roost all day as made evident by a lack of tracks in the snow.
