Two of my hens had a hatch-a-thon this weekend. They both set in the same box with each other & the chicks all hatched, 13 of them, at the same time. I put them in a brooder pen and they're sharing duties with the baker's dozen. They haven't gotten aggressive at all, except with me when I changed out the water this morning but I suppose I deserved it. Normally, these birds would be at each other's necks for any number of reasons. I never had them isolated, just let them and a few others roam freely with the rooster. I'm almost finished building a new pen that's 16' wide x 28' long, with 16' x 8' as a covered box for setting hens & chicks, so I'll be able to separate them by this weekend if necessary. Currently they are all healthy and doing well. Has anyone else ever dealt with two hens raising a mixed bunch? Did it end well? Any suggestions?
