@YdogsflY,

If you are serious, then then you will not be put off by my remark. You can keep a pair or trio free-range with ease. Penning and breeding as indicated above gets a lot more complicated as already indicated. Rearing in confinement takes some learning and you can find young birds can be a threat to themselves. Even free-range they can be a threat to themselves when you start managing tightly to keep adults from fighting each other.

What is your desired end point with these birds if raised?

I'm not sure if serious at this point, but really getting the itch. I will need to build new infrastructure if I do decide to jump into it. I was going to be building new conditioning pens and family pens soon as we are hoping to add some good American Dominiques to the farm. SO I could just build a few more while I'm at it for the Games.

I have not thought of the End Point for the Games until your question. To be honest, I really don't know. Sitting here now, the endpoint would be a nice flock of Games worthy of the past and breed preservation. But in reality the End point is a nice flock of Games, possibly showing, and a hobby my daughter and I shared together. The End Point can certainly change as directions in fowl often do.

Good question. Gives me something to mull over.

If you have a free-range component, do be aware of potential complications with penned birds as they can fight through wire. The American Dominiques can contribute to that problem as well. That written, you can still have some serious fun with the behavioral end of things.

There is a lot or great info on this thread and many knowledgeable breeders happy to share their wisdom. It is nice to see new interest in gamefowl. I was given my first hen and batch of chicks when I was a little kid. That was all I needed! I was hooked. They are smart and athletic and most tame down pretty quickly with some handling.

For me, the most important part of raising them is respecting their need for "personal space". From a young age, some males and females will not get along. As long as you recognize it early and have the pens to separate them, it will go a long way.

@YdogsflY

Where are you located?

I was planning on putting the Doms in a new sheep pasture (about an acre fenced) about 100 yards from the New Hamps and egg layers. I could build some decent pens in the far end of the pasture for the games. Use tarps to block visuals to the other pens and runs. Move the Doms up to another area near the egg house and New Hamps.

I'm in Pa, just across the line from Harney Maryland.

I'm just gonna stick with these from now on.
Even got my nails done too
