They look majorly different from those here. I have two species and both look blond in comparison to what occurs further east, even when same species involved.

Pretty sure it's an eastern box turtle.

What are called Three-toed Box Turtle here are supposed to be of the same species as the Eastern Box Turtle, just a different subspecies. If my understanding is correct then the Mississippi River the boundary. On the east side of the river they are almost as dark and sharply colored as yours. Those I grew up with in southern Indiana look very similar to yours.

Yeah most of mine do too but I have 3 like this.

One of my broody just came off with 12 chicks. Got her out of way and will now push for two more late, late game broods. Gonna see if upgrades keep Coopers from stealing my juveniles after hen quits being broody.

I wonder about all the questions about something killing birds in the other threads. If someone can manage to sign up for this forum I'd imagine they know how to use google.
How many times does it have to be repeated that chicken wire is light duty meant to keep them in? Missing birds only a few feathers left? I dunno maybe a fox? Bunch of mangled birds. Raccoon? Neck ripped down and breast eaten? Hawk? I'm just gonna take a leak near the coop that should fix em. Time and time again people regurgitate misinformation.

The best medicine is once you catch the offender a stern talking to and a swift kick in the *ss. They should just move on to greener pastures from them on.
