True. Setting traits is where I see consistency and helps keep track of what I am doing.

Haphazard crossing is not going anywhere except in circles. Too many variables. But I like experimenting. And I dont like to import too many that I cant keep track of it.
It's not hard to mark eggs, toe punch, zip tie, leg band, use notebook etc to keep track. I have a couple 3 way crosses that you would never believe what's in them. Sometimes it shows sometimes it don't. Without keeping records of some sort for yourself it's a shot in the dark.

ya true. I have some I dont know the bloodlines... but I think it gives me unbiased opinion on them as individuals... Its just a hobby for me, but I still strive for the best.

How do you think the 3ways compare to the pures?

I know for sure that my original "pures" were a lot more aggressive to lesser chickens... and a rooster would kill a hen, what seemed like for no reason. I dont get that anymore. Maybe genetics or maybe the way I raise them is different.

I get that but you will never know what's in them. It ms obviously important to be able to know what's in them so you can make more if you like the outcome. Breeding the one you like won't get it done. It's where he/she came from. "Damn son everybody knows that"

I would say they aren't game anymore. Cull them.
You seem real similar to Timothy treadwell. If you don't know who he was look him up you'll understand.

cause you're breeding for looks not ganeness/aggression if you're breeding like you told Tex to. But hey we'll agree to disagree

They are all different but still too young. One benefit of crossing would be overall health but you may be sacrificing something good.
I have 3 2 way crosses that turned out real good. I crossed my ruble and blacks and didn't like them. Separate I like them both.
I experiment a little here and there but I also cull most of them.
