If a birds feet are banged up they ain’t gonna be all chipper for awhile. Takes awhile for them to heal up completely. Just birds getting into it in the yard will tear up their feet and knock the outer layer of their spurs off sometimes if they’re young enough.

I had a black stag last year that whooped the sh*t out of everything moving. I couldn’t catch him to save my life. This bird was literally laying around, and limping from one place to the next. That is until another stag got close to him then he would go again. Finally caught him when he couldn’t get up fast enough.
He’s absolutely fine but he was banged up pretty good and wouldn’t give an inch with the other stags around.
