I have a Mel sims black stag that single handedly showed me that 3 different crosses were no where near as good as him. 5 birds total. The rest were culled. I figured I would let him go and see. That was a learning experience. Not for somebody like shubin though.

To be honest, there are three I am considering. One of yours, a half Spanish and 1/4 blue. All are top notch! I am leaning towards the half Spanish. She is quite the hen!

Are you trying to breed certain color birds?
Maybe I read it wrong. You obtained that bird that was killed right? You didn’t breed him?

That Spanish was one I raised. He was bred and I was hoping to breed him again down the line. I am working to get back to some miniature Blues I had as a kid, so it is a work in progress to get back to a smaller version of Miner Blues. The older breeders I talked with said small Spanish were generally used as the starting point for smaller genes to cross in to a family.
