I tried a permanent one and when we had a lot of rain it eventually rubbed off that's my take with it. And you get a lot more rain bud you can try it and the pencil see which holds up best.

Yes. Some BYCers covered the entire egg with sharpie to test and they had high hatch rates. There was no evidence of it bleeding into the shell... I can find the data if you wish.

Actually that’s what you get when your wife picks up a new hose. All 1000 ft of it
