So they basically breed un true?
I am not sure what all is involved to produce the white that you see. The white is covering a pattern that shows through in all of the colored feathers. If you take away the white you see the hidden pattern, in your case it looks wheaton, but there could be any number of colors in there. To me, that is the fun part about gamefowl! There are so many hidden colors in "pure" strains. I haven't used any wheaton colored birds but they are coming out in the blue crosses I have been working on.

This is the first gen for these not knowing what the guy put in his own established white kelso I was kinda expecting to get a number of things when crossed to my Leonard Bryant cock. I was just curious since we were on the topic, I appreciate it. I do see blue'sh, white and black on the tail and under feathers I'll just have to wait and see as it matures.

Pure = I got em coming consistent. Nothing more.
It’s amazing how often these terms are used even when something strange pops up after years of linebreeding.
Birds would sell better to the foolish if the term “pure” is used though.
From my limited experience In “pure” birds that I have acquired. A few different strains. The rubles are the only ones that haven’t showed at least some signs of falling apart from being bred to tight and to be honest they come fairly inconsistent. Nothing serious but its there.

My rubles threw what looked like hulseys. Well just one stsg. He had an orange tail. Blues are very consistent
Yeah I never got one like that but I’ve gotten a few lighter hackled, dark, blue and green legged. Most come blue legged and dark hackled though.
Blues, leipers both real consistent. I’ve noticed some slight inbreeding depression with both. All to be expected with any family that’s kept consistent. Crosses are usually a bit more vigorous but not always.
