She’s a great hen. If I let her out she’ll follow me around all day. I can just scoop her right up. Pretty rare to be that laid back.
I wish more birds were like that. I really dislike dealing with crazy high strung birds. They don't last long around here. I have a little blue stag that follows me around and has learned to tug at my pant leg to get my attention. Probably doesn't help that I hand him a treat, if I have them out.

Like Shubin wrote, if the pen is big enough, multiple roosts help too. On the same roost, some birds will go back and forth pecking on other birds, but don't seem to jump to another roost to do the same thing. I haven't tried it but have thought to, but maybe a divider on the roost.
I will try another roost

Do you let your hens run loose? I pen the hens I want to keep. After awhile if they are still acting crazy I just toss em out in the yard. The way I figure it is if they calm down enough for me to catch them again great. If they don’t to hell with em.

I have another ruble hen that’s loose. She’ll follow me around the yard making noises at me when I’m feeding. She grabs my pant leg too. I’ll throw her a small handful. She takes the corn and keeps following me. I probably do this 6-7 times every single day and haven’t learned. She’s got me whipped I think. I even stand there picking out the corn for her like an idiot.

Teaching bad habits guys. If I am not careful, the birds start jumping into the 5-gallon bucket as I walk around. That in itself is a nuisance. It gets to be an issue when a young bird stays in bucket and gets carried from its home range into the territory of another group, then scrapping.

Well obviously you need to do a better job of keeping your “tribes” separate. Come on everyone knows that!
