Thanks Kathy! I am pleased so far with what I have, although I have been trying to figure out how in the world I am going to hatch out 200 Dels next year with the limited number that I have to choose from. I figured if I use my top 4 hens (I only have 7), it is going to be at least 10 hatches to reach that number (which I figure would take me from February through July)....I suppose I'll just hatch out as many as I can and call it good!

Excellent! I just talked to Paul today. I had emailed him and asked him if he had trouble with pinched tails and he said that after reading my email he started researching and found that he had a number with that problem. I am very glad to see his line with a nice V shape tail!

I have a silly question. Stevenson, you have that pumpkin photo, maybe you will have an answer...

My Dellies are really enjoying foraging in my pumpkin patch. So far, they appear to be simply scratching through the dirt around the plants. Hopefully they are just eating bugs and weeding. The pumpkins are still small and green.

I try to make a little money by selling the heirloom pumpkins in a pick your own patch. So, I don't want the pumpkins damaged. Do you think that the chickens will start pecking and/or eating the pumpkins after they ripen? If so, I need to relocate the chickens, but I hate to do that if they are only eating the bugs.

When pumpkins are small, the outer shell is very soft...I would think they would be very interested in eating them! My chickens like squash and zuchinni...but it is what I throw into the coop.
