My Dels are really good layers too, even when molting they keep laying. If I have obvious culls at 14 - 16 weeks old, they are pretty big for that age and make two great meals for DH and I. They are also really good foragers and venture out of my coop at a younger age than the other breeds I raise. I don't know anything about light Brahmas but I can't imagine they are meatier than a good Delaware. I think my Dels are awesome though! Look back on this thread for some Pics of Kathyinmo's recreated Delaware project birds. They are ginormous and gorgeous!Yes and no. There is really all RIR's in there. I do have 2 EE's in there also. I only breed the reds for egg production. There crazy layers. All year long. Just thought I would throw another in the mix. EE's eggs of course are easy to tell. If I get one or two of her eggs in the brooder I will sell cheap. HAHAHHA. Plus maybe she will straighten JR. out. He's only 11 months. And Mr.Rooster gives him a hard time when trying to mate. Even though he sneaks in a few a day.Usually when MR.Rooster goes in the hen house for the night. The one or two hens that goes in late are in for a surprise. He's so funny.![]()
I was going to raise Dell's but decided to go for Light Brahmas. I will be raising to sell but when I want to eat one I will get one. Light brahmas are so meaty!!!!

I got my original start with a local breeder here in Oregon that had been working with them for 5 years. I have some youngsters growing out from CPartist here on BYC and the boys are getting HUGE. She is in Florida and will usually ship chicks or hatching eggs. She is super nice and great to work with.Where did you get yours!! I know hatchery Dell's aren't that big and meaty. If I could get the meaty Dell's I would get them over Bramhas. I think. Again, that was my first bird as sort of a meat bird. But not there primary function, if you know what I mean. I just want a good strain of birds to raise with my Heritage Rhonda Island Reds I'm getting in March. Separate of course. I just want to be a breeder of good strain birds. Around here they are non-existent.
