Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Haha, they look like I put them in a mud barrel and shook em' up! But they do look nice when they want to. I think Elanore (the very dark barred one) is the cleanest hen out there, she knows how to get away from the rooster better I believe.

I managed to get some pictures taken yesterday of my Delawares.
I need to figure out how to resize the pics -- so this will post first then the pictures will follow.

I only have one Pullet and the rest are Roos. They were eggs from someone on Ebay and I think they are hatchery. I know they are very "un-standard" but it is all I have at the moment.

I would love some help figuring out who of the Roos can stay and who needs to go. I only want to keep two roos. The pullet stays as she is the only one! But I would really like to hear any faults and good things about these birds.

Also, can you tell me what traits are the hardest to breed out? Comb, barring, smuttiness...

These Delawares were hatched out July 9th.

That wasn't too hard! The Roos look alot alike. 2 have more solid tails, 2 have a 1/2 barred 1/2 black tail, and 1 has a better barred tail.

I am not sure about the hackle color, leg color or smuttiness. I have read that smuttiness goes away as they mature. Is that right?

I know the combs are way off. They are certainly no Isaac. Sigh...

Thank you for any and all input. I really need the honest truth.

That second boy down has some nice barring coming in on his tail, yay. They've all got good leg color. That intermittent smutty stage passes here fairly quickly and you'll get to what their back color and tail feathers actually mature into soon. The waiting can kill you dead. I don't see any sprigs on the boy's combs, that's good, I had to cull three here for that.

Keep feeding them birds

Sprigs are comb points that actually come off the side of the comb, rather than upright. They are inherited so a definite cull. Yours dont have those, but they have an extra point or two. They seem stocky enough, great leg color, too.

Thank you both. Well I guess it is a good start. These are such fun birds.

I didn't realize how much of showoffs they were until I went to take the pictures.

They would just walk in front of the camera as if saying "Well? Take it already!"

I tried to get some of the other birds just because and the Dels just kept going in front of the camera. Big hams!
