Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

The pullets are the ones that are unbarred, so perhaps it will work then.

Combs are so tricky. I am keeping 4 cockerels, hoping 2 of them turn out good. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I just can't keep all of them for 2 more months. Even then, you don't know for sure how their coloring will change. They don't get their 3rd set of feathers until about 8 months or a year, I think.

Ok, just went on IBW with my Dellie eggs. I bought 8 if you remember and 2 extra were included for a total of 10. Only 4 ever really developed. Bad handling on the post office part, Freezing Dec temps during shipping, low winter fertility or my hatching technique. *We did have problems with the house heat, but the temp and humidity didn't dip in the incubator*

I candled tonight and of those 4 it looks like one may have quit. I could see no movement. I've left it in because I could always be wrong and it is very close to hatching day. The other three are alive and moving.

I also had "the talk" with Shannon. After negotiations she has agreed that I can get rid of some roosters. So, I'm going to be putting up at least one Silver Phoenix, and two Standard White Cochins. If I keep these three, plus Biden, and add in the new Delaware Roosters my poor Hens won't ever get any peace! We don't plan to breed the cochins or the Phoenix so there is no need for the Roosters. We will keep one Phoenix Rooster just because she really can't bare to part with him.

Laney, good luck on the hatch- do keep us posted!

Highspringschix- you have some really beautiful Dels- that is really good weight for that age, isn't it? They all look so nice and chunky-

Thanks, they are pretty.

I wish they were from my eggs.

I don't know if that is a good weight. What has been anyone else's experience? What is an average weight of a Del at 12 weeks old? They are suppose to be broiler birds and grow fast, so it should be relatively big. I didn't feed them high protein broiler food, of course. I wasn't planning on eating any of these guys.

Just have to share some pics of my girls. I don't have them for showing but I did get them from a guy that shows Delawares. I don't know how you would ever keep them clean enough to show.
