It arrived in perfect condition!!! All so beautiful and round! Not a crack in the bunch, I've candled them. They are sitting in a carton on my kitchen table just settling waiting for the incubator to arrive. The packaging was a thing of beauty!!! The incubator should be here soon, I'll get it set up and put them in tomorrow.

I can't wait!!!!!!!

Wow!! I am away from the computer for a couple of hours and all of a sudden I log in and there are Del eggs up for grabs and I had to have them but Tracey beat me (because I was away from computer) and then Kathy is getting eggs, then Laney has eggs, and there are chicks trying to escape the brooder and talking up a storm in the next room and then I realized it.........I NEED more eggs!!!! AHHHHHH............could someone pass the Delaware Anti-Mind Control drugs please???????

Laney, I am so sorry about your coop but glad the eggs arrived safe and sound. BTW I spoke wit Dr. Robinson today and he said do not put ivermectin on their combs or near their face. He said apply it at the base of the neck and down the back only. He also said that it can and will burn their eyes and the smell can cause respiratory troubles if too much gets near their nares. He said that it absorbs through the skin and slowly into the blood stream (over a 24 - 36 hours period for full absorbtion) and if you treat them once per week, the NFM should be gone before a third treatment is necessary. 1/4 cc per LF (4 -6 drops from an eye dropper) and half that dosage for a batnam. So thought I would pass that on to you.


Cyn, re: Ike he said to try mixing some olive oil, pine tar no pick that you may have available, bag balm (and your bitter apple if you want) and a couple drops of an essential oil of lavender...make it into a gooey type paste and rub it into his wattles below the skin and his comb, removing any excess globs. He said lavender oil helps as an antibacterial to clean and heal the skin. He said not too much essential oil because the smell might bother him but the girls will not like it at all if they get a taste of it. Basically, mix safe stuff up that helps heal him, that tastes bad but that ike can tolerate. After talking to him about you he said "She will know what to throw in there aside from those on the list"

He said delawares are horrid about picking and biting....which he thinks is a major reason so many people do not continue to keep them and breed large nice flocks without having to cull off the hens and replace them. He said they would do it to any roo with dangly wattles or a raised comb of any type. He also said he got rid of his 3 dellie girls because they were tearing up his RIR roo.

So, that is the news from my dear geeky avian vet. LOL After him hearing all about Ike and Suede, he wanted to see a pic of them, especially Ike so I told him I would okay it with their mama and then forward a pic to his email. So, let me know Cyn, if it is okay i will send a picture of your boys on to him.

All this talk of setting eggs has got me so excited! I (finally) ordered my incubator and it is in transit. I can't wait to start hatching along with everybody else.

On the Dellie subject...we talked about the dwarf gene issue with Ike and his girls....I talked to him about Cannonball. he is coming by tomorrow and take a look at her. e said that as Phoebe is suspected of carrying the dwarf gene that Cannonball may also carry it recessively even though she is not a "full" dwarf. He is currently doing a study and writing a paper on the dwarf gene in poultry for publication. So, he asked if he could take a blood sample from Cannonball...I said sure. So, I will let you know what he says about her, Fattie and Thor tomorrow....I told him all about Suede and Thor so he is excited to see Thor tomorrow too. hehehehe

Yay. My girls were trying to eat my roo's wattles, too. He was bloody. I had to remove him for a couple of days to heal up. Between that and eating eggs, I was pretty mad at the girls for a little while. I think both problems are solved, at least for now. I was hoping it was just a one time thing. But if that vet said they were known for that.... I hope it doesn't happen again.
