Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

HAHAHAHA Cyn as I was reading your post, Cheyenne looked over my shoulder and so "No No No Aunt Cyn...no taking off his head". Draco is sweet as pie to her the butthead! I am just sick over this. Cyn, how fast do you think that will heal and him need to be away from his girls? Athena starting doing the squat today.

Dang it I am still fuming!

Cetawin- NO!!!! OUCH!!! If the bleeding has stopped and he is cleaned up, could you put them back together under a red light? Poor darlin' Thor!!! I could almost say "Draco stew"!!! I wonder if Athena's "coming of age" has anything to do with this? Male rivalry?

Scott- your girls are beautiful - nice and full. Bianca is good name for the white girl, too.

Kathy- love the pics. Those EE's are so pretty-

Well, to tell you the truth, I just don't know as of yet. It seems that their saddle feathers still have some smutting(actually looks more like barring than what I'd call smut) in them, the body feathers are cleaning up good so far, but I really don't know how much more they'll molt before they'll look like what their final plumage will be. I've never paid so much attention to all of the molting phases, because I've mostly raised red and barred chickens and you just don't see all the drastic changes like these Dellies have gone through so far. I'm guessing that's one of the reasons they say to wait until at least 6 mo. of age before getting to carried away on the deciding factors other than their maturity level, also.

Beth is not over Athena for sure because neither Sirius nor Draco was out with them except about 5 minutes before everyone went in. Sirius will "try" Thor but as you saw, he will turn away from him. Draco is a skittish sneaky little dirtbag and he literally ran up behind Thor and jumped on his back while Thor was facing off with Sirius. Sirius and Draco were both trying to be Alpha from day one and that lead me to looking at all 3 of them and deciding to keep Severus...he is laid back like Thor but attentive and a good boy. Sirius and Draco would fight each other and Severus all the time...they tried Thor but he is just too much to handle head on for either of them. I just do not like the tag team thing against a passive roo...Sirius tried going after Severus and Thor yesterday, leading Sirius into roo jail. With two of Thor's girls being mouthy Delaware, I am not risking putting Thor in a confined space with them and his comb obviously "different" until it is healed. I just do not want to risk it.

Kathy- when did you sneak over and take pics of my kids?

Cynthia said the smut should be molting out soon if ever, and I was wondering how the others close in age to mine were doing. Overanxious me, once again. Just want to make sure mine are not oddballs!!! Thanks for posting those, and thanks, too Catdaddy, for answering. Seems like we are all in the same boat.

Cetawin. I will never get over Athena- she and Ultrasuede look SO much alike!

But joining forces against Thor is WAY too smart - I hate it when anyone gangs up with someone against someone else. Is this part of why people on BYC refer to their chickens as "raptors" upon occasion?

Question of the day- last night when I refreshed their water before going to bed, there was growling and something that vaguely sounded like a roar. . . . .AND something that sounded like.....hissing. (The cats were all accounted for.) Please tell me this is normal?????

I think Thor's comb will heal quickly if you keep putting something on it. Do you have any Bag Balm? I keep it around all the time for this stuff. That may help a bit, but it's really greasy. It has hydroxyquinoline in it to help fight infection. From an article on it:

The active ingredients of Bag Balm are 8-hydroxyquinoline sulfate 0.3% (antiseptic) in a petroleum jelly and lanolin base.[2] Bag Balm used to contain 0.005% mercury "from ethylated sterols."[citation needed] This earlier formulation was much more effective at fighting infection in wounds and was known to completely clear infected wounds overnight.....

Bag Balm is a salve developed in 1899 to soothe irritation on cows' udders after milking.[1][2] The product is officially only meant for animals and is inspected as such by the FDA,[2] but it's also often used as a treatment for chapped and irritated skin on humans and can be found in places such as drug stores, ski resorts, online vendors, needle-work stores, and of course farm and feed stores. Its uses are many, for example "squeaky bed springs, psoriasis, dry facial skin, cracked fingers, burns, zits, diaper rash, saddle sores, sunburn, pruned trees, rifles, shell casings, bed sores and radiation burns."[2] This list is not exclusive but illustrative, it is beyond the scope of this article to list every application.

Rescue puppies are excellent trash foragers, stick foragers, sock foragers and puppy kibble foragers. They're also face, hand and toe foragers. Named one Donner, he eats people, wow he's got a mouth on him, ouchy!

Got a pic of the eldest largest del mix now - he's got to be a mix, he's incomplete columbian/barred. Sucker is HUGE...

Beth, there is a possibility that some of the darker cockerels will not clear up completely. If breeding to standard, you'd probably not want to keep those unless they are your best choice of a group otherwise.

ETA: Beth, guess who is showing broody signs? Riley! She was screeching, fluffed up, head down, wings out and then she was clucking deep in her throat. I call it the "Weebles Airplane position", LOL. She let me pick her up a few minutes later without a problem, but then she was clucking again. If she goes over the edge, she gets Orp eggs and hopefully, they'll be fertile now.
