I haven't done much to do with Dellies today..and you'll have to forgive me if I hijack the thread for just one sec.... We were out to give the goats all of their shots when the one goat I have that I thought was sterile bagged up on us and went into labor!

So here she is...Cocoa new member of Rigby's Folly...

Mom's name is Fudgie.. She belongs to my Daughter who bought her with her own money $50 for both her and her sister. Both have given birth since then so her investment has proven sound. I'll be giving the chicken's their medicine tonight.

Boy did I have a surprising day! A new girl! I'm so excited because we already have too many boys and I'd probably have to insist my daughter sell a boy.

Oh my gosh! That is great! On a scale of 1-10 were you a ten shocked? How long did it take for her to have it?

I was shocked - about an 11. We really thought she was sterile. She'd been in with the buck for almost a year with no signs of pregnancy at all..hadn't gained a pound, her pofile was the same as the day she entered the pasture. Plus she has a fishtail teat. We started shots at about 11:30, she had a virgin udder, meaning nothing but teats, flat as a pancake. By 12 she was half bagged up. 12:30 she was on the ground stretching and uncomfortable. 1:30 full contractions and the plug was out. 2:04 we had a baby!!!!!

Unbelievable huh? And her sister just dropped her baby and looked around and said what the heck is that get it away from me. We had to force her to nurse for 48hours until she got it. This one knew it was her baby and just loved on it from the first second, let it nurse within 30minutes. Now she has it out in the barn under a heat lamp and won't let the baby leave the little red area.

Cetawin- tell Cannonball we are all anticipating a great first egg! And we want pictures!

I guess my crew decided Luciano was a wuss name for a roo - someone got the back of his comb- not too much blood, but he is all feisty again now- Blu-Kot or however you spell it to the rescue! We start again tomorrow!

You guys are having way too much fun on here the past few days!!!! I have been cracking up with all of the "going ons" around here....My wonderful hubby has been sick since Friday, so I have been really busy taking care of the chores..........

Although my Del chicks are only a little over 3 weeks old, Nicola thinks that 6 out of 6 are roos!!!! Uh oh!!!! I will have to get some pics in the next couple of days, but they are growing like weeds!!! A couple of them have even learned how to fly out of the brooder, so I have had to put a screen on top to keep them in and they don't like that

I will now sit back and let the Dellie drunken fun continue

I doubt they're all roosters! Sure hope not! I have had my hatches roo-heavy, but not entirely roosters so surely you have a girl or two in there.

Oh Lisa, I hope there are some pullets in there- that would be too bad if they were all boys! Although, this crowd seems to be enamored of the roos, so you would fit right in!

Luciano ( ahem, Placido is an OK guy, no one can sing the prince in Turandot any better, but I had a thing for the voice of that glorious stentorian trumpet of a Pavarotti and actually paid big bucks to hear him live, so Luciano Roo is just going to have to explain that in Italy, that IS a manly name and then kick some Dellie butt to prove it) is OK, the bleeding is totally dried up, but he is madder than a hornet about it, and went for my sleeve. He just yanked on it, so I picked him up and held him a minute or so, lightly holding his beak and talked softly to him, and then put him down-he does NOT like being out in the dark. I am really hoping it was a roo fight. If these girls are taking after their mommies, I WILL be the first person to invent chicken armor.

Cetawin, after watching Ultrasuede today, I have discovered he is one slick fella with the girls. He has at least two of the Dellie ladies traipsing around after him, wanting to eat where he eats and be where he is. We'll see if he develops the ability to pancake naughty girls, like his brother Thor, Hammer of the Orpingtons.
