Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Oh what a precious goat baby. Congrats to you and your daughter. Beautiful little girl.

Beth...Fattie (the Dellie Thor pancaked) follows him around and the look on her face if i could draw it would show little hearts floating out of her eyes...she just looks at him so adoringly. he dances for Cannonball and she screams and runs. DH says he is building her a racetrack and a little chariot when we get moved so he can take her to chicken chariot races. hahahaha

I must share this with you humans owned by Delaware...I was so stunned I had to call Cyn and tell her....

Neighbor about 1/2 mile up the road pulls into driveway today with his wife...said he heard roosters crowing and wanted to ask some questions about them and we walked down near my main coop so he could see the big girls....so we are chatting about where I got my birds and etc etc when his wife says...and I quote

"That is a beautiful Americoona rooster"
he.gif

I explained that he is not an Ameraucana but is an Easter Egger...she stunned both her husband and myself with her question that followed....WAIT FOR IT

she says

"what kind of eggs does he lay?"

Now...her husband looks mortified and is just looking at her like she has three heads and then he looks at me with eyes begging to me forgive his embarrassment...well my intolerance of stupidity quickly turned in a smart arse attitude and I replied

"Very valuable ones when he lays because they are one of a kind"

Now...I learned in elementary school that roosters crow and fertilize the eggs and the hen lays the eggs and sits on them and hatches them...I NEVER was even led to believe that a rooster would lay an egg. I am sure this woman had to eventually pass elementary school...even if it took her 9 years to do so, uninformed is one thing but completely ignoring elementary school lessons goes straight to the stupid zone but come on....what kind of eggs does he lay? She called him a rooster, said HE so ?????

I want to know where these stupid people come from and can I ship them back?

So, I have been told my green eggs were spoiled because they were green...chickens only lay white eggs and some brown you know
I have been told that my SLW at 2 weeks old was a fithy disgusting cannibal
I have heard tons of stupidity but this takes top honors in the YOU ARE AN IDIOT category

Good thing she did not see Thor...she might have accused him of being a marked up mutant or something and I would have been forced to choke her repeatedly.

So for the record...ROOSTERS DO NOT LAY EGGS...NOT NOW NOT EVER!

Cetawin- *sigh* and the BROWN cows give chocolate milk. . . . .I don't want to tromp on anyone's feelings, but as small farm life fades away in America, so has some of the basic common sense knowledge. I have been surprised all my life by the innocent ignorance of "city kids". On the other hand, I am computer illiterate, so I need to guard my tongue. However, that is one FUNNY story, even if it is aggravating! I think so many kids don't remember things of that nature IF they are even taught them in school anymore- why remember a fact about something you have never seen and have absolutely no interest in? At least that is what my stepson and his friends always said about the things they were supposed to be learning in school that had no relevance to their young lives, which were full of computer games, movies and X box, etc. Cheyenne is more blessed than she knows to have the lifestyle you are giving her. . . .and the rest of the kids of country people, chicken and animals lovers, etc. . . .yah, I am on the soapbox this morning- never mind. (And off topic. . .

) I might be able to tell the wrong end of a horse, but I do not have city smarts- is it a trade off?

How are everyone's Darling Dellies on the nasty cold snowy morning? Kathy, did you get this stuff, too? I know Cyn must have- Scott? Laney? Any one else?

We got the snow yesterday and the wind was here for two days prior. I am trying to think positive! Hopefully the last snow of the season.

But it made a nice mess outside and my poor Del roo is filthy. This year I am going to do sand in the runs because this mix of mud and chickens makes me feel really bad.

I was really mulling this over in my mind last night and I may have a temporary solution for Isaac. After I get eggs to rancher hicks and urbanfarmboi, as promised, I may move all the Delaware ladies out of that coop and into the main laying flock. Then, I can possibly leave Riley, my blue barred EE, in the Delaware coop with Isaac and add the three Buff Orpingtons (four-year -old Sunny and Ginger) and the two big Brahmas (three-year-old Miranda and Caroline). I've never seen any of them hunt down Dutch to pick at his scabby comb and wattles; seems that's the job for two of my RIRs and another one or two. Then, if all goes well with Isaac and his new ladies, I'll only have one scabby rooster to deal with rather than two. Could be a temp solution since I don't plan to hatch any eggs from those ladies, so doesn't matter which rooster they're with, or if they're with one at all. If Nugget truly goes broody or Sunny or Riley (all three have been broody at some point), I may be able to leave her with the small flock of older women and Ike. So, what do you think?

Cynthia, It sounds like it's worth a try- that way no roo is lonely and womanless, right? Would Dutch be with the naughty Dellie girls? Will he kick their darling Dellie butts if they go after him?

If you can't get a roo's affection, do you just resign yourself to having his respect? Luciano looks fine this morning except for a scabby comb, but he avoided me entirely. . . .

"I wanna be loved by Roo, just Roo, and nobody else but Roo. I wanna be loved by Roo alone, boop boop ba doo"
It fits the song perfectly. . . . .

Sheesh, no wonder they all crowed at me yesterday.

Funny take on that song! Good one! I think Dutch will be meaner than Ike is to them, but I can yank him out of there if need be, and at least, he'll only take up one cage, not two. Isaac is in one of my two broody pens and with spring coming, I do need him out of there; not to mention, it's no life for a sweet boy like Ike.

It is worth a shot. Dutch was letting his women eat him up too....will he put the smack down on those Dellie women?

I would think that Isaac would love those girls...big ole beautiful Miranda and Nugget...
