Well, maybe she had to talk herself into it? I still have my fingers crossed
On a Dellie note- after much thought, I decided my approach to Delzilla was all wrong. I was getting tense and going out to the coop in a defensive mode. And besides, if I call him Delzilla, think of him as Delzilla and EXPECT Delzilla behavior out of him, why should I be surprised that he IS a Dellzilla? I also decided to keep my fingers hidden, as that is what he eyeballs all the time. Voila!!!!
He has a tenor crow, very beautiful and full, so I rechristened him Luciano, and I kept my fingers out of sight. He looked at my jacket sleeve, looked at me and NOTHING HAPPENED. I lifted him up and stroked his little chest and neck, told him he was Luciano, and beautiful, and put him down and he went off to eat.
Maybe he thought my fingers were big, fat juicy worms? Maybe he felt my tension and decided it was combat time? I don't know- but we'll see if this works. I've been out with them for most of the morning, and he has not tried to bite again- He hung closely around me with the rest of them, letting me stroke his back or chest. However, I am doing it with the jacket sleeve and keeping my fingers out of his sight for a while yet.
IN ADDITION, if you all will put up with my silly novice chicken "O wow guess what happened" mindlessness - I sat down on the shavings bag with Lizzie in my lap and started humming some bits and pieces of tenor opera arias and after an initial silence, ALL THE ROOS STARTED TO CROW. I don't know if they were joining in, complaining about my voice, or if they decided it was a competition, but I thought I would DIE. And the biggest kick- I finally got to hear Ultrasuede crow. And he is a countertenor!!!!
OK, I am back in chicken heaven!
