Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Cetawin, it's getting it out of it's system before you leave! I predict sunny skies and good sailing for your journey!

I agree! It's gonna be a beautiful, nondramatic cross country hike!

Well, it has got to be soon ..... DS heard the egg song today, too! Come on Del girls!

Ya know.... group two Dels are maturing much faster than group one did. It is actually quite noticeable. (Of course they're about all boys!). I wonder why that is. Do you think the Farmer's Almanac is accurate, on best hatch dates? Maybe that has something to do with it?

I'm off this week, and I plan to take a picture of each of the 8 boys in group two, so you can all critique them for me!

I think I am gonna make a pen of meaties, as I have extra roos in other breeds also. I would rather eat them, than to sell them for a couple bucks. My neighbor said she would help me process them! YAY!

I am on a roll .... did lots of switching and changing around. I now have most of my breeds separated out of the growout pens, and into their own pens by breed. It feels like a major accomplishment. I started all breeds by hatching, and now they are near point of lay (most of then). It feels good!

Zephyrcreek- What are Dixie Rainbow hens? That is a new one to me - can you provide a picture? When you feel better, which I hope is soon!

Kathy- it's perfectly possible about the Farmers Almanac- it seems to be right about a lot of things, and I have been wondering why my kids seems so advanced- I can't remember who showed pics of some of their roos - but I remember thinking- gosh, those babies are a bit older than mine and they don't have near the combs, etc. Either that or Popeye is right about spinach.

Anyway, I am glad you heard the egg song!

I went a bit picture happy two days ago during a break from the hospital. How many pictures is an OK amount in a post? I probably have about 10 pictures of the Dells and Barred Rock chicks.

BTW My MIL came home today. She's not completely healed, but is doing much much better.

Kathy asked for it!!!!!!!

I took most of the pictures to keep track of how the wing feathers were growing in. Even now just two days later I can see tail feathers starting to grow in. (Sorry for the yellow in this picture)

Dellie with lots of Smutt, and a Barred Rock that I think is a Roo.

More beautiful smutt on the wings, and Crazy Ivan sneaking in the picture. Notice how I can't get a picture of the Splash Orp, or the other Java? Ivan is used to being handled a lot.

More Smutt and a Barred Rock resting beside my hand. They are really sweet too, but they want to be near you, not on you.

Oh, I'm indulging Cyn. I made two pens this week in my downtime..... and I know she is interested in the penmaking stuff... Here is a lousy pic of the pens. Couldn't get the focus good enough on my cell phone.

OK, I'm done!!!!! Sorry they aren't great pictures. I've been rushed all week and have been pushing myself just to find 15 minutes to spend shoving my arms and head in their coop to remind them who Mama is.

Cyn,

When I learn bowl turning, that's when you have to watch out...because then I'll make lovely egg bowls for all my SDWD friends!

BTW, the pens are made from Cocobolo wood, not sure I have that spelled right, and from a new product called Tru-stone. The Tru-stone is the one that looks like lapis lazuli. They put 85% stone dust together with resin which makes it soft enough to turn on a wood lathe. Only problem is it can be super brittle so you have to be careful not to crack it.
