Well here's the evening update.. All six EE's have hatched and 5 Dels. 2 are still in the works and the Temp and Hum. have gone haywire. The temp has dropped to 98.7 and the hum. is 78%. I don't know why. Of the 2 that are still hatching 1 is nealy out but seems to be having a hard time pushing out. The other has a peep hole and looks wet and that makes me nervous. I keep watching for signs of life and as long as I see that theirs hope. The one w/ the peep hole has a chick stuck to it and is being dragged around and the poor stuck chicks is crying to get away. I don't know when to call it quits.

The butthead either went after his Daddy, drew blood on his Mama or got into it with Ike or The Suedenator. He did not attack Zane did he?

We keep removing Dutch to spend nights in the hospital cage so his comb and wattles will be protected from some of the girls in the main coop, which now includes three Delawares, the little nibblers. He's still a bit scabby. Yesterday, as we were putting the girls up for the night, DH handed Dutch to me to carry to his night cage. Along the way, he nipped at my shirt a little, and when I started stroking him and talking to him, he bit me and left a mark on my arm. Of course, I grabbed him by the neck, griped to my DH, who came and took him from me and he was then a little angel.

Today, I wasn't feeling well, so DH had night duties. He came in the house and said he'd just had it out with Dutch. As he was carrying him across the yard to where he spends the night, he bit DH's wrist hard. According to DH, he immediately popped Dutch across the face then grabbed his neck and held him until he started to struggle. Then, he did it again. Then he presented his arm to Dutch to bite. He refused to take the bait (well, maybe he does have a brain cell or two). I said that if he ever flogged, just once, he was gone. DH said he'd break his stinking neck. So, Dutch is once again on thin ice. And he'd been so good for so long, too. This was really the first time he'd gone after DH. He usually reserves his nipping for me when he's frustrated about me taking him from his girls. Anyone want a BR rooster?

He's great with the girls and was a sweet boy until the first time we had to separate him from his women almost a year ago. That was when he bit me the first time. He would most likely be fine with a change of women and scenery....and owners.

uh huh went after Daddy I knew it was something stupid. Dutchie you butthead you are heading for a stewpot if ya keep it up. *shakes head*

Beth, I hope you find your cat. Sorry you had such a crappy day. You are gonna love that home grown chicken, I just know it! Turn your heart off, and enjoy it! (easy to say, I know)

Congrats to all you hatching, and to all of you that get eggs from your pullets! ! !

Dutch is "cruisin' for a bruisin'" as my mom would say. He may be Hawkeye's son, but my sweet Hawkeye would never have bitten his mama. If he wasn't Hawk's kid, he may not be here now, but I refuse to put up with his antics. Have to pick my battles and fending off a PO'd rooster is one battle I can do without. So far, no flogging, just biting out of frustration. I had to separate Isaac a lot recently from his girls, but he's never bitten me. And Dutchie had better watch it. Isaac can go back in with the main flock in a heartbeat and Dutch may find himself in a new environment (could have carrots and potatoes in it).
