Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Beth...if Ultrasuede does not thunk em good I can bring Thor to visit...he does not put up with any fighting whatsoever...he will get right in the middle of it and thunk the one who started it if he sees it happen. He would thunk those terrorists for ya.

Cyn, that Levi is such a sweet boy but scaring those girls now....they are not ready for that yet. Poor things.

Talk about grabbin' the girls .... oh, my .... you should see Jacob. As soon as I open their pen (to free range) he runs lookin' for the girls from the layers coop.

It is as if the Delaware girls bore him or something. The layers coop has no rooster, and when the girls see Jacob is out, they

and all start running! On the other hand, my #2 Del rooster does not do that at all. He is content to stick around closer to their pen, and I have yet to see him mount. Jacob is all over the place!

When DH called last night, I told him I had sold some chickens and chicks. First words out of his mouth were, "You did not sell our original Dels, did you? Don't you dare sell those girls or Miss Holly!" I reassured him that I had no intention of selling them.

hahaha he is worried about who you sell huh? Mine worries only about Cannonball and now Hera a little bit. And he is growing more find of Thor as the days go by. LOL

I don't know if it is this way with all the BRs or not. She is the only one we have had. Well, I do have the chicks that are only 7 - 8 weeks old. I sure hope they are as friendly as Miss Holly. I am so excited to have more!

Cetawin, Thor is most certainly welcome- he can give a seminar on the subject. Luke can take notes for future reference also.

The BR I "inherited" from the neighbors is a funny little thing- always hanging out on the deck for a treat, and- relating to some other thread in the pictures section- has been seen killing small snakes and mice. She is a hatchery bird, and I think she has the same internal egg issues that Cyn's sweetie has, but she sure is a good representative of the BR friendly personality.

Kathy, your DH is a good guy! Mine keeps calling Luke "Supper" and the girls names like "Fricasee" and "Sunday Dinner" to tease me. He admits to liking Lizzie, though, and the BBS Orps. He had a bad experience with a rooster when he was little, so he stays out of the run and coop if the chickens are out.

I gotta tell ya a story. When the kids were here over Memorial weekend, I was sitting at the old picnic table that we use as a work bench. Miss Holly came up and sat with me. Then she perched herself on my shoulder, and as I turned my head, she just reached her head down as my son took a picture. It looks like she is giving me a kiss. I told them they had better NOT post that picture on facebook, or everyone (who doesn't already) would for sure call me the crazy chicken lady!

We all do love Miss Holly!

I was looking at my Light Sussex yesterday. They are really starting to fill out alot the last few weeks. I have only 3 girls, and no rooster. They are 6 months old. I think they are looking so nice. I didn't realize how plump they get!

I have the 3 girls in with the Lavenders, for a little project. First mating produces black chicks. Mate them together and get Coronation pullets (no roos). So, in only 2 generations I can have Coronation pullets. Of course I realize they will not be pure Sussex, but pretty none the less. To get a Coronation roo I have to go one more generation, and cross back to a Light Sussex roo (which I do not have). Just Coronation mutts, not Coronation Sussex.

I am thinking of putting Thor to work...he and I can travel the country together...me meeting and greeting...him thunking and training Mean Ole Delaware women what happens to bad girls who mess with their man's comb and wattles.

Here's big Ike today, or maybe I should say dirty Ike, with Delilah. See how nicely his comb and wattles have healed? Older women are better, LOL. He is molting and his color is pale right now. Have to go trim his beak, too. It gets way too long.
