Morning all....back from our "lake trip". We had a blast, but this old man has really determined he doesn't take the heat like he used to!!

OMG....it was 95F on Saturday and 97F when we left yesterday! Thank goodness the camper has AC! The heat was awful, but we did have a great time and caught a LOT of fish. We had an old fashioned "fish fry" Saturday night and still brought home over 20lbs of FILLETS to freeze....not too bad for a hot weekend.

Everyone here at the "Polish Chicken Palace" is good. Cora and Sugar are still tending their babies (will be 3 weeks old this Wednesday) but I am expecting them to start pushing them away here anytime soon. One of the chicks was the rescue from "mean ole Mammy" so I guess it will grow up and stay here with us.

I really need to begin thinning things down here a bit as we are covered up in young birds. Under 20 weeks old we have:
24 Columbian Rocks (looks like 18 are cockerels, uggghhh)
28 Barred Rocks
9 White Rocks
2 "Black/split" Orps (from Kathy) we think
4 Blue Rocks
1 Del chick

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

I am off to Memphis tomorrow and Cincinnati on Thursday. Have a great week!

What Cinncinnati? You need to come down here for lunch Scott. I am about 63 miles outside of that city.

I hear ya about the heat...it is killing me.

The heat does me in totally- this wussy child hibernates during the day on the north porch, with the ceiling fans on full blast!

Stay cool, everyone!

In all seriousness, I'll be driving back Friday morning...perhaps I could stop of for a cup o coffee and would love to see your new place. What city are you in?

Sadieville. If you come down on I-75 South about 62-65 miles from Cinncinnati.

Give us a call on Thursday evening and we can meet you here or at Waffle House right off the interstate. It is at exit 129...turn left and it is on the right about 1/4 mile and across from the Pilot. This new place needs some major work but the coffee pot is always on.

Would love to meet you if it is convenient. Hopefully, DH is not doing anything Friday morning...I will check with him when he gets home today. It is about 5 - 5.25 hours from me to Cyn's front door to give you a drive time estimate.

Heat, rain, heat, rain!

Today is more rain! I enjoy the heat more, because I am sick of the puddles and fear of botulism when the chickens get into stuff. DH is in Wyoming (and hates it there). He said it was 37*, raining and cold while he worked outside Saturday.

When it rains, all the chickens go inside, except the Delawares! They do take cover under the roof overhang, but they stay outside. I'm staying inside today.

It's oppressively hot and humid here. Zane can't even stay out on the lawn for any length of time before he looks miserable, so I put him back in his cage with the fan blowing right on him, which he loves. I'm inside pushing ahead to finish the quilt top I'm working on with the little window A/C blowing my direction. I want my bag of frozen fruit I love, but now it has only four fruits and Dole took out four others! Cheap! Cheap! I pour a bowlful and let it start to defrost, then eat it while it's ice cold. Cools me down so well! But, dang, it's expensive!

The Delawares seem to tolerate the heat better than the other girls, but then, besides my Lt. Brahma, Miranda, and my splash Ameraucana, Snow (her name keeps her cool, LOL), they are my only white birds. Also, not being heavily feathered like the Orps or Brahmas, they seem to do very well in the heat.
