I get to bring DeeDee home.

And as I do not get to pick up THREE baby girls and merely one....I shall claim Alice and Suede as replacements to heal my broken heart of course.

Edited to add: kathy some folks use dog nail clippers and so forth but I was always afraid it would crack the beak like it does nails sometimes. I use a dremel tool with the sanding attachment. I just barely touch the tip and roll it over to round it....done and over before they have time to fuss about it. I use it on their toenails too.

How are Hatchery Delaware's temperments and such? What color eggs do they lay? (The breed page is not working for me at this time

Look what I brought home from the Michigan chickenstock yesterday. I had read on this thread about how friendly these birds are and it is so true. I thought it would take at least a couple of days or so for the gang to warm up to me, but no..... the very first night they were jumping onto my lap! I am so thrilled that I finally have my delawares.

Thank you Zephyr!
I have one cockeral which I have named Feargus [Fergus] which means supreme choice, and four little girls who will be named, Annabel [loveable], Kenna [fair one], Flora [white shoulders] and Fiona [white]. I picked the names from a Scottish Gaelic name list.
One of the little girls is not in this picture since she is a little younger than the rest.

Congratulations! Beware of DELLIE MIND CONTROL...trust me, they are experts from hatch...they take over and control your mind, bending you to their will and every desire. Never look them in eyes.

It already happened to all of us.

Morgan7782, I have 1 Delaware cockerel from Mcmurray. He is only 12 weeks old, so I have very limited experience. So far he is a very confident, quiet roo. As compared to the BO roo that is the same age. Ellis, the del is dominant but in a very quiet self assured sort of way. The BO tends to get his hackle feathers up at any activity of the girls, and seems to run around yelling at them for the littlest issue--- where as the Del just calmly steps in between the tiffs and keeps the girls in line with quiet movements. He always stays between the dogs (outside of the pen) and the girls, and already give the girls the first dibs at good treats. I just love my little Ellis. I keep hoping and praying that his personality doesn't change.....

As for other hatchery dels, I think there is a very mixed bag.
