Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Poor Cannonball!!!! As if losing Thor wasn't enough, you have to deal with her grief too.

I received 16 Delaware hatching eggs yesterday from ZephyrCreek. Hopefully I will be a proud new Dellie keeper in 22 days. I really hope they live up to the expectations I have for them.

Well my live trap worked, I woke up this morning and took Stewart and Quasi outside (they spent a comfortable night inside safe from lurking predators) and I found a HUGE oppossum trapped! Would a oppossum kill my hen like that? We've had them eat eggs before but they never touched a bird.

Either way, he's caught and will be disposed of after work. I'm setting the trap again tonight, marshmellows and wet catfood seem to do the trick. Stewart and Quasi will most likely be spending another night inside, maybe I'll take some pictures while they're on vacation.

Cetawin, I'm sorry that you're now going through troubles with Cannonball as well. I can sympathize with you having to also deal with mourning birds. All of my hens that are penned with the one that was killed yesterday have been moping around. It's like they're listless and sad. It makes me feel terrible. I'm sure egg production will drop, when we had the dog attack last year it did dramatically. I hope she and you both feel better soon.

Jeremy- equally evil as coons in my eye- keep that trap going, there is apt to be a spouse and babies, all ready for chicken dinner.

Cyn, I am SO glad Isaac is better-

Uuughh!! I positively LOATH 'possums!

Filthy creatures! At our previous residence in Western Washington, we shot and killed 112 of the wretched little beasties from the back porch over the course of about four months.

I'm glad you caught at least one of them Jeremy. And like Beth says, keep that trap set and baited at all times. Where there is one, there are bound to be others, and each and every one of them would be more than happy to expand their menu to chickens! Wretched, awful, filthy creatures!!! Uuuuugggghhh!!!! *shuddering in revulsion*

Hey everyone,

I have got a few questions regarding Delawares, I got this chicken recently and added it to my flock of Barred Rocks, was under the impression that is was a Columbia Rock. But after reading this thread I am almost sure it is a Delaware.

What do you all think by these pics... I am not sure how old this bird is I would assume is is 13 weeks or so. My Barred rocks are 12 weeks as of yesterday.
Here is the Bird in Question:

I love mine...Pepper is my Del rooster. He's like a dog with 2 legs and feathers.

Enjoy
