Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Kind of like what's depicted at this site for BLRW, huh Walt? http://www.bluelacedred.com/Hatchery or Breeder.html

Any time anyone wants to see just how poorly a hatchery bird stacks up to a dedicated breeders bird, just take a look at these comparison pictures!

The differences are simply astounding. Not to mention down right infuriating! Somewhere in the hatchery breeding pens, there are beautiful birds, full of great potential. But the hatchery owners can't be bothered with taking the time to selectively breed pairs that are going to improve the breed line, instead of their bottom line! It's all about how many fertile eggs they can gather and hatch each week. And then pawn them off at top prices to an unsuspecting general public!

Great comparison pics!... and....those hatchery birds are better than most I've seen. They just don't have the time to do everything needed to produce good birds. They are just in the business of selling birds as fast as they can make them. Many are just hatcheries. They only hatch eggs.....eggs from someone else who raises them and then the "hatchery" hatches their eggs or the "breeder" drop ships to you with the "hatchery" boxes.. You have no idea who is really "breeding" the birds in many cases.

I would like someone's opinion on this matter.

I have 5 pullets and a rooster from Bill Braden. They all look pretty good. My question is should I use the rooster or not. I think Bill had a closed flock for a long time and am thinking maybe inbreeding if I use his rooster on them pullets. I don't know how long it takes before the inbreeding happens.

I don't know what you would get with that. But if you use a RIR rooster over a Del. hen you would get a Red Sex Link. Cackle Hatchery sells them that way. I'm pretty sure you would get something else your way.

The first meeting of the Delaware Club is tomorrow, Tuesday, at 9:00pm EST on a Chatzy room that I have set up. If you wish to attend, pm me for the address and password! All Delaware lovers interested in preserving this breed are invited, you don't have to own any to join the club!

We will discuss the website, decide whether at this point we need officers or district heads, brainstorm ways to promote the breed, and a few other things. Bring your good ideas!

Hello all, I just aquired some deleware eggs in the egg swap this spring. I hatched out 3 in late March. 1 is definitly a cockrel, the other two I think maybe pullets. The two I am not sure of have barring on all there feathers, not solid back on tail feathers, they are all huge. I am going to post pics to get opinions from others about the sex of these 2 and also I would like a general critique of them.

This is for sure a cockrel
