Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Ok you guys are driving me nuts

I try my best to keep up with the Del stuff on all these threads and clubs and as fast as I can read, people keep posting so I never get fully caught up

Kathy can you tell me please the story of those pullets/hens. How many generations did it take to get that result. That female looks like she would throw super roos. Is some one around here (BYC member in th USA) working with the original BR/NH cross trying to get bact to true Dels?
I just can't keep up

I think I would like to find some good Dels. I got a couple of chicks from McMurray, but I am not sure if they will be good ones. I want them to be chunky, great egg layers of big eggs, and have a nice disposition. I think I read that Sand Hill has good ones, but not McMurray Hatchery.

Nope but the hens are good layers and they sorta look like Dels I sold mine to someone that just wants eggs. I've heard that Sandhils were nice but I've seen one from Privett that was nice and I have some from Cackle that were nice too

Yes, I am ! Well, it will be a team effort, as it will take alot of hatching. See those ratios ..... only 1 in 32 is a Silver Columbian pullet. I plan to send out chicks to alot of people!

I have the Barred Rock rooster. I am picking up the New Hampshires on Saturday.

I will do the first cross, and send out the barred chicks. I feel confidant that my BR rooster is pure, and the NH are from Germany (an excellent strain, I am told).

Interesting. McMurray's hatchery website has no pics to identify the Del chicks! All the other breeds have pics of the chicks! I had to call to figure out which were my Dels since they kind of looked like my free rare chick which I am pretty sure is a pheonix! Ugh! Well I am going to check out all the links that you good people have posted tomorrow. Thanks for all your help. I WILL find some good Dels one of these days. BTW, are the roos nice? What is their crow like? I have a RIR roo and so far he is real nice with a good throaty crow. I gave away our wyandotte roo. Not very interested in that breed after I saw how small their eggs are, and how noisy they are!

My roos are pretty vocal. We basically live in the woods though and everyone dumps their stray dogs here so lots of reasons to sound the alarm. The roo I have is VERY aware, and watches out for his girls. He has alerted me twice about dogs trying to get in the fence. The girls run for cover and he makes sure I know and get them gone. Good throaty crow from my boy, not high pitch shrillness...that gets on my nerves

He went through a "stage" where he thought he'd "try me" and see where he could get, but he learned quick not to mess with momma! They tend to be really well behaved boys with the occassional exception to the rule brat roo. I'm very pleased with mine though.

Oh my goodness, you all have had very active fingures today. I loved playing catch-up on all I have missed this week. I had a serious problem this weekend, but I am doing better. I wanted to say thank you to everyone who wished me well.

Anyway, I am so excited to get started on these Delaware breedings too in the spring. I will be purchasing eggs and maybe chicks come the spring to grow up another round of prospects.
Hopefully, I end up with something I can use!
I hope I can chime in regularly again, talk to you all soon~ Tacey
