Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Of course!

I saw two Delawares at the show in Morganton that were pretty darn nice, especially the hen. I got in contact with the owner, who HAS joined the Del club (woohoo!) and she got her stock from Welp.
So I have seen nice birds from Welp and Privett. She said Welp would not tell her where they got their chicks. Does anyone know?

And no, unfortunately I did not get pictures, as DH took off with the camera that morning.

Walt, you would be a character no matter what your age. Oh wait, you said "HAVE" character-

How is Delaware different than light brahma and light sussex? They all look the same to me except for Brahma's feather toes.

YES! I started with some hatchery stock mixed in with mine, that had A LOAD Colombian influence. Speckledhen pointed that out to me (about a year ago)on this thread, and I got rid of those and kept the good stock I already had from a breeder. It's the ONLY way to know! Jump in and get to figuring things out, post pics, talk a bunch, have fun!

It is all educational, and we all have loads to learn. Some are farther behind, some are way ahead, but we're all here for one thing...because we LOVE Delaware's! Hatchery stock just isn't ideal if you want to be a serious breeder of these birds because you can never be certain what other breeds have seeped into the gene pool. Hatcheries have a habit of using Colombians. No big deal though, you have to start somewhere

Learning the difference is really half the battle, so heck yeah you should post here, and are WELCOME with open arms!!!!!

Delaware's have barring, the others have pencilling. That is the major visual difference. They do all look similar, especially the females, but the male Delaware's have barred tails where the others have solid tails. Oh, yeah, and the feathered toes too. Physical differences...not positive because I don't know too awful much about sussex or brahma, but I believe Del's are much better layers than both of those, and maybe better meat qualities(?) as well. Lots of birds look similar and are very much different.

Oh my goodness Beth, I think he's serious!

So everyone is going to Ohio but me? Wish I could join you

DH is almost finished insulating the winter quarters. The birds are going to get in just before snow. He likes things tight, I might have a ventilation problem. I have already worked out a way to screen one of the doors and leave it open if there appears to be a problem.
