Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

You can sure see the difference between these and the hatchery NH hens I used to own. They are stunning, Kathy!

Here is one of those, Lucy. Almost no tail black, pinched tail and a comb like a French beret on her head. She laid the nicest, huge eggs, though, just like a Delaware. Penny's comb was better, though, but still, a very orange chicken.

Even my Meg is colored more like your new NHs than my NHs were, see?

Kathy, wow... wow, wow, wow, wow! Those NH are some of the most gorgeous I have ever seen! Almost every other bird has looked to some degree like a Production Red, that is not the case with those beauties!

I would LOVE to have some of those next spring, soley for layers! I've never had any red colored chooks in my flock, it's never been my favorite color but those birds are changing my mind. I love how they're a rich pumpkin/orangey/red color.

Not to mention the different red tones within the males! So pretty!

Look at those perfect tails too... if you can get those tail qualities to translate into future Delaware females, that would be splendid!

Okay, I'm gonna try to pick my chin up off the floor now...

DEFINITELY count on me wanting eggs or chicks from you in the early spring time! I would love them now... but my incubator has been stowed away in the garage (against my will) and our brooder has been disassembled for the move to the new house, so no babies until then!

Oh, WOW, that is amazing! Makes ya wonder how all the details get so lost. Seems hatcheries should be more conscious of these things, or at least attempt to.

These birds surprised me with how they glisten in the sunlight. I mean, honestly, I was in awe!

It's amazing how it's all coming together in my mind...the tail black from the NH, the barring from the BR, the body and size, would you say?, more from the NH, the growth rate and maturity from the BR? I love seeing it all pieced together. Very fascinating!

P.S. I'm plotting my new coop as I type!

P.P.S. The red chickens will match my red rabbits! Then I will be obliged to get an Irish Setter, too. You know, just to keep the theme going.

Hi everyone- How was everyones weekend. I have been really busy calling Delaware breeders. I have combed Local harvest and called all the people from the SPPA member book. Which did include, Paul Harter. We talked for a very long time, discussing his flock, breeding and Delaware in general. He seems like a real nice guy.
I have met some very nice people and got some information about Delaware breeding, unfortunately true heritage Delaware stock has yet to be found. I did however, find a breeder or 2 for Bantum Delaware. So if anyone is interested in that I can pass along the info. Just PM me.

I still have several people that I am working on contacting, I hope I can find what I am looking for out there. I will keep you all posted as to what I find.

Kathy those are just wonderful birds. I am so happy for you!

Tacey,
I have been going through the Local Harvest listings, also! I think there are about 150 of them.... or something like that. I got about 40 replies today. Most all of them use hatcheries and their purpose is processing and selling them frozen. Very difficult to find breeders, for sure.

BTW, one guy in Massachusetts has Privett hatchery stock, and he has pullets for sale, if anyone is interested.

If I had the resources, owned and didn't rent, I'd absolutely LOVE to start from scratch with a pure Plymouth barred rock and a pure new Hampshire red

I have yet to have one of my molting chickens look quite that ....... that ...... that way. I think I would have to learn to knit, and knit them a sweater. Ewww, it gives me chills to look at her...... that must hurt, don't ya think? She looks like a porcupine.
